The New Trend: Workday exercises

Exercise during the workday can boost energy, productivity, and overall well being. If you work in an office or other sedentary setting, finding the time and space to exercise can be difficult. Fortunately, there are plenty of exercises that you can do at work, no matter how limited your space or time may be. Here are seven exercises that you can try during your workday:

  1. Desk push-ups: This exercise will work your chest and arms. Place your hands on the edge of your desk, and do push-ups. You can also do push-ups on your knuckles or even your fists if you want to increase the intensity.
  2. Wall sits: works your legs and glutes as well. Stand with your back against a wall and slide down into a sitting position, holding the position for as long as you can. Repeat the process for several sets.
  3. Desk push-ups: This exercise will work your chest and arms. Place your hands on the edge of your desk, and do push-ups. You can also do push-ups on your knuckles or even your fists if you want to increase the intensity.
  4. The Plank: Strengthens your back and core. Hold a plank position while on your hands and toes or on your forearms and toes and hold the position for as long as possible.
  5. Shoulder blade squeezes: This exercise will work your shoulders and upper back. Sit up straight in your chair and squeeze your shoulder blades together, hold for a couple of seconds and release. Repeat for several sets.
  6. Seated leg lifts: Improve the strength of your lower back and abs by performing this exercise seated. Sit on the edge of your chair and lift one leg at a time, holding it for a few seconds before lowering it. Repeat with the other leg.
  7. Neck stretches: Stretches for the neck and shoulders will help relieve tension. Gently tilt your head from side to side, forward and backward, and then rotate your head in a circular motion.

Short intervals of these exercises can be done throughout the day without taking up much time. Make sure you take regular breaks and move around. While working, you can also stand up and stretch or walk around your office.
